This course offers learners the opportunity to acquire a QQI level 5 award in General Studies 5M3114 focusing on a broad-based study of liberal arts.
The course aims to provide a programme of learning as an access course to Higher Education. The modules studied are suited to those who wish to progress to degree level courses in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. The course aims to equip students with the academic skills necessary to succeed in their first year at university.
- Leaving Cert or its equivalent is advised
- Mature students are welcome to apply. Work/life experience will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.

There is a minimum of two weeks’ work experience placement included in this course. This work experience may be in a community service setting such as library, learning, cultural or related setting.
In consultation with University partners, this access gap to Higher Education has been identified. It is envisaged that graduates of this programme would access a broad range of Arts and Humanities programmes in Higher Education institutes. Dundrum CFE has a number of MOUs in operation with TU Dublin, UCD, IADT and Trinity College Dublin. Dundrum CFE works with all students through our guidance service to ensure every opportunity is made to progress to Higher Education degree programmes in this area.
