Aim

The aim of this programme is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence required to work independently and under supervision in a range of sustainable design contexts and or to progress to further and or higher education and training.

This course facilitates the learner in the exploration, comprehension of skills and knowledge relevant to the core principles of design for sustainability.

Learners will become familiar with Design-for-All processes and the Cradle-to-Cradle concept which is accessible, sustainable and environmentally responsible.

Learners will explore the scale of the detrimental environmental impact of traditional design methods and the rationale underpinning the necessity for a more sustainable approach to design as a response to climate change and the circular economy.

Entry Requirements

  • This course is open under the BTEI initiative (see below). The course is also open to applicants who wish to take part in a part-time basis.

Career Opportunities

Students who complete the course will have gained a useful skill set that could lead to employment in a variety of vocational positions.

Progression

Graduates can avail of  progression to Dundrum CFE Sustainability and the Built Environment full time course.  Progression to year two in the area of Sustainable Design Technology may also be an option.

Part Time (BTEI)

The Back To Education Initiative (BTEI) provides part-time further education courses. It gives individuals the opportunity to combine learning with family, work and other responsibilities. Anyone who has left full-time education can take part in a course. Fees for part time courses offered under BTEI are normally €200 – €300, depending on duration and schedule. Certain participants are however eligible for free tuition.

The participants eligible for free tuition are people who (or their dependants):

  • Have less than upper-second level education or
  • Are getting a jobseeker’s payment or means-tested social welfare payment or
  • Are getting Working Family Payment (formerly knows as Family Income Supplement or
  • Have a medical card or
  • Are eligible to participate on VTOS or Youthreach.
