Aim
This course facilitates the learner in the exploration, comprehension of skills and knowledge relevant to the core principles of sustainability in construction. Learners will explore the scale of the detrimental environmental impact of traditional building and the rationale underpinning the necessity for a more sustainable approach to building as a response to climate change.

Learners will become familiar with the design and use of processes which are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building’s life-cycle – conception, design, construction, operation and maintenance. Learners will develop an understanding of renewable energy technology, equipment and materials selection, thermal performance, conservation, monitoring and impact on supply needs at a national and micro-generational level.
Entry Requirements
- Leaving Cert/Leaving Cert Applied or its equivalent.
- For mature students, work experience will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
