Aim
Join the Speech and Language Therapy Assistant programme and acquire the knowledge, skills, and competence to work independently in the area of speech therapy and under supervision in a supportive role within the Health Service. Our course is designed to give anyone with an interest in this area an understanding and appreciation of the role of speech and language therapy within the healthcare profession. Acquire the relevant theoretical and practical skills, and gain work experience in a healthcare setting.

Additional Training
Occupational First Aid and Patient Moving & Handling is also offered.
Work Experience
Supervised clinical experience in nursing homes, hospitals, and other health facilities is incorporated into this course. This will take the form of one day per week for the academic year
Students will be required to undertake Garda Vetting procedures prior to work placement.
Career Opportunities
The Healthcare Service Skills award is the Department of Health’s recommended qualification for all healthcare assistants working in the public and private sector. Graduates can work as physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy assistants in any healthcare setting under the supervision of qualified therapists.
Progression
Graduates who achieve the required standard may progress to further studies in the FET sector at level 6 or to IT Colleges/Universities through the Higher Education Links Scheme as outlined in this brochure.
