Aim

These two discrete courses lead to Business Studies QQI Level 5 5M2102. The specialist modules allow students to select based on their chosen area of interest.

The Fintech option is a foundation to introduce learners to the financial technology area to develop an understanding of the international financial services market and pursue employment and further training in the sector.

Human Resource electives develop an understanding of the Human Resources department.  Staff training and development, labour law, the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees and other general Industrial Relations issues are all covered as part of this course.

The Government’s strategy for the Irish Financial Services Centre (IFSC) aims to create 10,000 additional jobs over the next four to five years; however, a skills shortage in the FinTech sector has been identified as a barrier to growth. Developing a skills-set which combines both the business and technical knowledge of the international financial services market is crucial for anyone who would like to work in this sector.

Progression Examples

Graduates who achieve the required standard may progress to further studies including in this college or to Institutes of Technology and Universities.  Examples of progression courses include:

  • Maynooth University, UCD, DCU and DIT to pursue business, marketing, finance or commerce
  • DIT, DT324 in Business Management, however DIT has many places on all of their business programmes and 450 in total in the college
