Aim

This course leads to a Ceramics Creative Craft certificate over a period of two years. This course will provide students with an introduction to pottery and craft and is a pottery for beginner’s course. This is a part-time course with the main focus being how to throw pottery on a wheel.  You will be introduced step by step to the various skills required to create a three dimensional piece slab building, coiling, press moulding etc. You will be provided with the opportunity to develop your skills in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Aim

These courses lead to Art Craft & Design QQI level 5 5M1984. These courses are thought through practical demonstration and practice which will give students the opportunity to design and make a wide range of unique craft, sculpture and textile pieces using a range of different materials.  They will also learn how to be resourceful and create unique pieces from up-cycled materials.  Students will learn the practical skills of sewing, which will include patchwork quilting, applique and felting or alternatively ceramic crafts.  Emphasis throughout the course is placed on drawing and design.

Throughout the course specialists will give workshops in a range of related areas such as dyeing, candle making, patchwork, handmade soaps and ceramics.

Aim

This course leads to Creative Textile QQI level 6 6M4368.  This course will provide students with a broad textile and craft education base.  Students will incorporate new ways of working and expand their textile practice.  Emphasis is placed throughout the course on drawing, design and the production process.  Students will develop their own experimental textiles and fibres using unusual material and the latest techniques.  They will explore how textile artists and designers use fabric manipulation and stitch for craft and design.  In addition, students will learn about ceramic and glass craft techniques.

Progression Examples

The Career Guidance Counsellor in the College is available to advise students on the various progression options but the Level 4 course facilitates progression to the college’s QQI level 5 courses in Art Craft and Design or Creative Ceramics.

Graduates who achieve the required standard may progress to our Crafts and Textiles with Ceramics QQI Level 6.  Progression is also available to IT Colleges through Higher Education Links CAO scheme.   Examples include:
